UCC OBOWO PLAYS HOST TO IGBO PEOPLE IN DIASPORA (IPID) HOME COORDINATORS MEETING. By Nkiru F. Okoh, UCC Comm. &Cultural Analyst -in-Residence
ON SATURDAY JUNE 29,2019 UHURI CULTURAL CENTRE, OBOWO hosted the IPID Home Coordinators meeting at the UCC office Complex in Uhuri Umuokoro Umuariam in OBOWO L G A, IMO STATE.
Attendance Present at the event were the staff of UCC Obowo William Chinaya, Nkiru F. Okoh, Emeka Okeke as well as Monica Ndong. In attendance were eighteen (18) IPID Coordinators from Imo and Anambra states with Sir Martins Nwahiri [KSJ] UCC Obowo Centre Director and the Leader of the Coordinators as Chief Host.
Traditional Protocols Typical Obowo Traditional hospitality and Protocols were observed by some Community leaders of Umuokoro Umuariam, with Nzeobi Paul Chinagorom presenting the Kola-nut on behalf of the Traditional Ruler of Umuariam Ancient Kingdom HRH, Eze Augustine Adiele Nwaigwe who unavoidably was absent at the time of the meeting. Other Community Leaders present were Mazi Victus Iro, Mazi Theodore Otuwaladi, and Mazi Vitalis Amaeful as well as Mazi Louis Iweh; one of the sponsors of IPID Igbo Youth Awareness movement [IYAM] 2018.
The Meeting After the traditional welcoming protocols, the IPID Coordinators continued with the main business of the meeting. The highlights of the session were -the recitation of IPID Creed and the Nigerian National Pledge. -the recasting of the IPID Goals by the Lead Coordinator – Special information from IPID Leadership USA by the Lead Coordinator Sir Martins Nwahiri The most outstanding information unveiled was the announcement of IYAM 2019 event to be held at Nnewi Anambra State in August 2019. The Coordinators were encouraged to mobilize for Home Sponsorship in their respective Local Government Areas, amongst others.
Conclusion/ Observations The coordinators expressed satisfaction with the venue, the organization and hosting of the meeting; putting to rest some initial reservations in holding the meeting in Obowo LGA. Confronted with preparations on ground they were in agreement that the venue and choice of Obowo by the Leadership of IPID and Coordinator was proper and rewarding. It is noteworthy that one of the cardinal goals of IPID was the development of Igbo Land with rural communities being the center points.
The Uhuri Cultural Centre staff participated fully during the planning and execution of the meeting activities. The Uhuri Cultural Centre bus was fully utilized to convey coordinators from Owerri axis to the meeting venue and back to Owerri.

UCC LEADERSHIP SPONSORS OBOWO YOUTHS TO IYAM (IPID) 2019
ANNUAL IGBO YOUTH AWARENESS PROGRAMME AT NNEWI, ANAMBRA STATE
The leadership of Uhuri Cultural Centre sponsored the staff and 3 Obowo Youths to the IYAM (IPID) program held the weekend of August 9, 2019 at the Con-Aj-Events Centre in Otolo Nnewi, Anambra State.
The Youths arrived at the Event centre on that day and after a lengthy registration process were welcomed along with other Igbo Youths from other South East States with a speech by Dr Ikejiani of Igbo People in Diaspora (IPID) leadership. The programme commenced in full on the second day with speeches, presentations and empowerment demonstrations and lectures by several accomplished personalities both in academia, medium and small scale industries.
It was reported that Over 150 Youths of Igbo extraction participated in the program which takes place annually. At the end, the Youths were urged to implement what they have learned in their individual capacity building. The UCC sponsored participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to attend the program stating that they came away with information that will be useful to their future endeavors. .
